The garbage man came

The garbage man came today
I eyed him with disgust
“Take my garbage, man,
Take it if you must.”

When I’m dead and buried
When you burn in hell
He’ll be here next week
As far as I can tell

Oh god I can’t bear to think of it
But he comes nonetheless
He comes, and with him, the stink of it
The rumble, the squeal, the caress

The garbage man came today
His face wide and grotesque, like a toad
The garbage man came today
And dumped me in his payload

The garbage man came today
Though the apocalypse was yesterday
The garbage man took what I had to say;
He stole the moment that had gone astray.
